Hope inside the depression. Light inside the darkness. Life in the midst of death and after it. It is how we try, at every turn, with every new storm and every new night, to see—to behold—life. God gives us free will, with more than just our actions; he grants it to us, by how we choose to behold life as well. We “like” or “love” the meme on Facebook that says “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond,” but when it comes down to actually living that meme in real life, many of us forget its significance, its value, its capacity to take us through the storm, up the mountain of Calvary, right to the foot of the cross–to drink of Jesus’ saving mercy that burns a light inside us for our little corner of the world to see, to behold.
